La maison des italiens

La maison des italiens

Auteure: Patrick Barbier

Auteure: Caterina Fiorilli , Pierre-andré Doudin , Ottavia Albanese , Louise Lafortune

Protein and Amino acid nutrition

Protein and Amino acid nutrition

Auteure: Anthony Albanese

Nombre de pages: 617

Protein and Amino Acid Nutrition describes the state of knowledge concerning the nutrition of proteins and amino acids. Topics range from the effect of some therapeutic agents on protein and amino acid nutrition, to species and age differences in amino acid requirements; utilization of D-amino acids; effect of proteins and amino acids on the growth of adult tissue in vitro; and amino acid requirements of animals and young adults. This volume is organized into 16 chapters and begins with an overview of the nutritional implications of the metabolic interrelationships of amino acids. The next chapters discuss experiments that tested the differences in amino acid requirements due to the differences in age and in species among animals, the biochemical individuality of amino acid requirements, and the utilization of dietary proteins. This book explains the synthesis of tissue proteins in relation to the essential amino acids; the link between food energy and nitrogen metabolism; and the use of the repletion method to measure the nutritive value of proteins, protein hydrolyzates, and amino acid mixtures. The final chapter discusses the nutritional needs of the older age groups. This book ...

Radicalized Real Estate Agents and the Rise and Resilience of the Australian Policy for Real Estate Carry

Radicalized Real Estate Agents and the Rise and Resilience of the Australian Policy for Real Estate Carry

Auteure: John S. F. Wright

Nombre de pages: 222

This is a book about policy change that focusses on a single case study: the rise and resilience of the Australian policy for Real Estate Carry. The text tracks investments of meaning and identity in the Australian policies for Negative Gearing (1987) and the Capital Gains Tax Discount (1999), through which successive federal governments inadvertently created scope for a dangerous and inefficient Real Estate Carry Trade in the housing sector that has proven resilient to reform for a quarter century. Considering that Carry Trades inevitably create the conditions for their own collapse, the historical failure of Australian governments to achieve policy change is a serious issue for the country going forward. As they attempt to make their housing sector more stable, sustainable and equitable, Australian people may need to prepare for potentially dramatic changes to their economic and monetary system. The book also raises important implications for understanding the nature and workings of policy change in Australian politics and beyond. It is a valuable resource for scholars and students of political theory, public policy and Australian politics as well as policy practitioners, third...

Eyes On City Hall

Eyes On City Hall

Auteure: Evan Mandery

Nombre de pages: 346

The Campaign is a close-up look at the paranoid, frenzied, oppressive, and exhilarating world of modern political campaigns?a universe where truth is fungible and moral conviction a mere asset, like good looks or personal wealth. Corporeal restraints do not exist. People regularly become things they are not.Evan Mandery, research director on Ruth Messinger's doomed challenge to Mayor Rudy Giuliani, offers a behind-the-scenes look at political campaigns in the television era. A day-to-day account of the 1997 New York City mayoral race, it takes us to the real battlegrounds of modern politics: polls, focus groups and television editing studios. With Mandery as our guide, we watch first-hand as political consultants, conceive of the ideal candidate and then attempt to fit their client into that ideal, no matter how uncomfortably. The stars of the story are memorable: Rudy Giuliani, popping his eyes and tweaking the truth; Al Sharpton, the colorful preacher and rising political force; and Ruth Messinger herself, torn between her populist political upbringing and the modern political world where money dominates over all other concerns. Sometimes cynical, often mirthful, and always...

Mount Calvary Cemetery

Mount Calvary Cemetery

Auteure: C. L. Miller

Nombre de pages: 132

Mount Calvary Cemetery's 40 acres of sprawling land has been the final resting place of prominent citizens, religious figures, and even the notorious for over 142 years. Many of those interred here were Catholic immigrants that settled in Columbus long before it became the city of a million people. They built homes, established businesses, and sought a higher level of education, becoming lawyers, politicians, doctors, and businessmen. One became "the voice of the 1920s," and several streets throughout the city were named after others. For every image carved in majestic stone or simple marker engraved with a name and date, there is the untold story of an individual who made Columbus the great city it is today.

The Politics of Gender Equality

The Politics of Gender Equality

Auteure: Carol Johnson

Nombre de pages: 338

This open access book provides the first in-depth study of the development of federal gender equality politics and policy in Australia from the 1970s to the present day. Australia has a history of gender equality innovation, including granting women's suffrage long before equivalent countries. From the 1970s on, it became the first country to introduce a women's adviser, femocrats (feminist bureaucrats) and gender responsive budgeting but then fell behind, partly due to the influence of Anglosphere neoliberalism. However, the Albanese government has pledged to make Australia a world leader in gender equality again. The book situates Australia in an international context, assessing the useful, though sometimes salutary, lessons which the Australian experience provides. It engages with key literature, including feminist political theory, discursive framing analysis, gendered public policy analysis, LBGTIQ+ issues, path dependency, and gender and leadership. It will interest academics, undergraduate and postgraduate researchers, public policy experts and practitioners, and a broader readership interested in issues of gender equality. The book makes innovative contributions to the...

Albanese and Picard 1-motives

Albanese and Picard 1-motives

Auteure: Luca Barbieri-viale , V. Srinivas

Nombre de pages: 116

This volume gives a nice summary of current work in the theory of 1-motives. The authors present the following: Let $X$ be an $n$-dimensional algebraic variety over a field of characteristic zero. They describe algebraically defined Deligne $1$-motives $\mathrm{Alb}^{+} (X)$, $\mathrm{Alb}^{-} (X)$, $\mathrm{Pic}^{+} (X)$ and $\mathrm{Pic}^{-} (X)$ which generalize the classical Albanese and Picard varieties of a smooth projective variety. Computed are Hodge, $\ell$-adic, and De Rham realizations, proving Deligne's conjecture for $H^{2n-1}$, $H_{2n-1}$, $H^1$ and $H_1$. Investigated are functoriality, universality, homotopical invariance and invariance under formation of projective bundles. The authors compare the cohomological and homological $1$-motives for normal schemes. For proper schemes, they obtain an Abel-Jacobi map from Albanese $1$-motive, which is the universal regular homomorphism to semi-abelian varieties. By using this universal property, they obtain motivic Gysin maps for projective local complete intersection morphisms. The volume is suitable for advanced graduate students and researchers interested in algebraic geometry.

The Transnational Voices of Australia’s Migrant and Minority Press

The Transnational Voices of Australia’s Migrant and Minority Press

Auteure: Catherine Dewhirst , Richard Scully

Nombre de pages: 263

This edited collection invites the reader to enter the diverse worlds of Australia’s migrant and minority communities through the latest research on the contemporary printed press, spanning the mid-nineteenth century to our current day. With a focus on the rare, radical and foreign-language print culture of multiple and frequently concurrent minority groups’ newspaper ventures, this volume has two overarching aims: firstly to demonstrate how the local experiences and narratives of such communities are always forged and negotiated within a context of globalising forces – the global within the local; and secondly to enrich an understanding of the complexity of Australian ‘voices’ through this medium not only as a means for appreciating how the cultural heritage of such communities were sustained, but also for exploring their contributions to the wider society.

Quarterly Essay 88 Lone Wolf

Quarterly Essay 88 Lone Wolf

Auteure: Katharine Murphy

Nombre de pages: 194

A prime minister in the making, and a nation on the move. In Lone Wolf, Katharine Murphy offers a new portrait of Anthony Albanese. She reveals a leader who has always had to think three steps ahead, who was an insurgent for much of his professional life, but had to learn to listen and devise "strategies of inclusivity" to win the 2022 election. Following that victory, Greens leader Adam Bandt voiced hopes for "a great era of progressive reform," but it is Albanese and Labor who will ultimately decide whether that potential is reached or not. Drawing on interviews with Albanese, Bandt, Penny Wong, Jim Chalmers, Mark Butler, Katy Gallagher, Simon Holmes à Court, Zoe Daniel and more, Murphy's brilliant essay draws out the meaning of an eventful political year. She offers a telling character study of the prime minister, investigates the success of the teals and the Greens, and looks to the challenges of the future. "Taking the party leadership was both a beginning and an ending. Insurgency was done. New skills were required ... Albanese knew how to recruit people to a cause and to get them to a similar place. He'd been doing that since his teens. But to win, he had to learn to...

Neuropathology of Drug Addictions and Substance Misuse Volume 3

Neuropathology of Drug Addictions and Substance Misuse Volume 3

Auteure: Victor R Preedy

Nombre de pages: 1108

Neuropathology of Drug Addictions and Substance Misuse, Volume 3: General Processes and Mechanisms, Prescription Medications, Caffeine and Areca, Polydrug Misuse, Emerging Addictions and Non-Drug Addictions is the third of three volumes in this informative series and offers a comprehensive examination of the adverse consequences of the most common drugs of abuse. Each volume serves to update the reader's knowledge on the broader field of addiction as well as to deepen understanding of specific addictive substances. Volume 3 addresses prescription medications, caffeine, polydrug misuse, and non-drug addictions. Each section provides data on the general, molecular, cellular, structural, and functional neurological aspects of a given substance, with a focus on the adverse consequences of addictions. Research shows that the neuropathological features of one addiction are often applicable to those of others, and understanding these commonalties provides a platform for studying specific addictions in more depth and may ultimately lead researchers toward new modes of understanding, causation, prevention and treatment. However, marshalling data on the complex relationships between...

Auteure: Pierre-andré Doudin , Denise Curchod-ruedi , Louise Lafortune , Nathalie Lafranchise
